Making Peace With Where You Are
We live in a world that constantly encourages us to become more, accomplish more, and move faster. There is always another goal to reach, another milestone to achieve, or something we feel we should have already accomplished.
Sometimes, in the middle of focusing on where we’re going, we forget to acknowledge where we are right now.
What if you allowed yourself to make peace with where you are?
You Don’t Have to Have It All Figured Out
There can be a lot of pressure to have all the answers. We may feel like we should know what’s next, where we’re going, and exactly how we’re going to get there.
But life doesn’t always work that way.
Sometimes we’re in a season of uncertainty, sometimes we’re growing, sometimes we’re healing, and sometimes we’re simply figuring things out.
None of these seasons mean you’re failing. They mean you’re human.
You don’t have to have everything figured out to be exactly where you’re meant to be right now, because the reality is, you’ll never know where you should be exactly.
Give Yourself Permission to Be Where You Are
Making peace with where you are doesn’t mean giving up on growth. It doesn’t mean you stop dreaming, setting goals, or working toward the life you want.
It simply means you stop fighting against the present moment.
You can want something different while still appreciating where you are today, you can have goals while giving yourself grace, and you can recognize the areas you’d like to change without believing that something is wrong with you because you haven’t reached them yet.
There is a difference between growth and self-rejection.
Growth says, “I choose to become more.”
Self-rejection says, “I am not enough as I am.”
You don’t have to reject yourself in order to grow.
Stop Comparing Your Journey
It’s easy to look at someone else’s life and wonder why you’re not where they are. But you don’t know everything that has shaped someone else’s journey.
Your timeline is your own, you experiences are your own, and your lessons are your own.
Instead of asking, “Why am I not there yet?” ask yourself:
“What is this season teaching me?”
That simple shift in perspective can change the way you experience where you are.
There Is Value in the Present
The version of you who exists today deserves your attention, too.
Don’t spend so much time preparing for the person you’re becoming that you forget to appreciate the person you are right now.
Take a breath. Slow down. Notice where you are. Notice what you’ve overcome, what you’ve learned, and how much you’ve grown.
You don’t have to rush through this moment to get to the next one.
There is nothing wrong with meeting yourself exactly where you are.
Making peace with where you are doesn’t mean you’re staying there forever. It means you’re allowing yourself to experience the present without constantly wishing you were somewhere else.
Sometimes, the greatest form of growth is learning to be at peace with the person you are today while trusting the person you are becoming.
